The wreck of the Kyriaki is one of the most unique and historically significant deep dives in the Chania region. This Liberty type cargo vessel, sailing under a Greek flag during the Second World War, now rests on the seabed between 68 and 84 meters, offering an exceptional exploration opportunity for experienced technical divers.
Discovered in 2013 by Nikolas Giannoulakis, the wreck was later carefully documented and identified with the contribution of Dimitris Galon, whose deep knowledge of World War II history in Crete played a key role in uncovering its story.
The Kyriaki wreck lies impressively well preserved, with large sections of the structure still intact, showcasing the characteristic lines of a Liberty cargo ship. Its scale and condition create a powerful presence underwater, transporting divers back in time while offering a rare glimpse into maritime history.
Due to its depth, this dive is strictly reserved for highly trained and properly equipped technical divers. The combination of historical importance, depth, and remarkable preservation makes the Kyriaki wreck a truly outstanding and unforgettable dive site for those prepared to explore it.
Located in the Chania area of Crete, the Kyriaki wreck is considered one of the region’s most important technical diving sites. The wreck’s excellent state of preservation, combined with its wartime history and impressive depth, attracts experienced divers seeking advanced wreck diving experiences in Greece.
For technical divers interested in deep wreck exploration and World War II maritime history, the Kyriaki offers a rare and captivating underwater adventure in the waters of Crete.
